At Biggleswade Academy, we have a provision for pupils who have an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Based at the Mead End site, the provision provides a setting for 8 pupils with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).
The classroom comprises of two teaching areas and individual workstations, which allow pupils their own space. There is a functional kitchen for life skills lessons and a fenced garden provides a peaceful area for outdoor activities. Pupils also have access to a quiet room that they can use and a changing space for PE lessons.
Staff in the provision have a wealth of experience working with pupils with ASC and with those who have social, emotional, communication and interaction difficulties.
Each pupil has a personalised timetable, suited to their individual needs. In addition to curriculum-based lessons, pupils are supported in developing social skills and life skills and wherever possible are also involved in other Academy activities. Break and lunchtimes are spent with mainstream pupils and where appropriate children from the provision attend some mainstream lessons.
